Surin Elephants Show and Round up Thailand 2009

Elephants in Thailand represent something special, an important attraction and natural resource able to catch people’s attention due to their amazing features. This year the festival will take place from 21st to 22nd November and it will end with an amazing parade at the Surin Elephant Show Stadium. It starts with the spiritual invocation, a rite which recalls the local gods, with a reference to martial arts. Then, the event goes on with the discent to the human realm which points out the meeting between the pachyderms and people, the hunt for the leader, the capture of wild elephants, the daily celebrations and traditions, the evolution from the forest to captivity, the use of animals in the warfare and the great final with 2000 people in costumes and hundreds of elephants. The show is famous all over the country and it represents an event absolutely to attend for tourists who want to taste the characteristic aspect of Thai tradition.

Surin is a very nice location, at once an important point of reference of Khmer Empire, where the elephant is a real symbol due to historical reasons. The Provincial seal is characterized by a white elephant, Airavata, who is always represented carrying Lord Indra, the King of gods, pointing out the value of the big animals in Thai culture. Surin is located in north-east Thailand and it is reachable by rail, air or bus. So, if you are around the north side of the country like in Chiang Mai, or you stay in Bangkok, just choose your suitable means of transport and go to Surin, to attend these amazing events dedicated to Thai elephants. In addition, Surin is the location also of the Thai Elephant Day, celebrated annually during the  second week of March.

    Hi, I will be arriving bangkok on the 21 Nov afternoon and wish to attend the Surin Elephants Show and Round up Thailand 2009” on the 22 Nov and spend 1 to 2nights at Surin-Guesthouse or farm stay( 22-23 Nov) for 2persons.

    Please advise what is the best arrangement/price?
