Secondo la tradizione, in questa occasione le persone tentano di svegliare il dio della pioggia Vassakan che riesce a distogliersi dal sonno solo con il fuoco, tanto che gli abitanti lanciano razzi verso il cielo in richiesta di acqua. La festa è totalmente dedicata al dio della pioggia, ed è capace di coinvolgere una gran quantità di persone assolutamente entusiasmate, specialmente durante il lancio dei razzi nella giornata conclusiva del festival. Per preparare l’evento sono necessarie alcune settimane, soprattutto per la composizione dei razzi.
